Cllr. Josh Coldspring-White

The three Hayes & Coney Hall Councillors are delighted to see that a new village sign has been installed at Chilham Way Shopping Parade in Hayes.

The sign – with a flower representing the heath fields that Hayes got its name from – comes as part of the Chilham Way Improvement Plan that your local Councillors have spearheaded in recent months.

Last year, a new community noticeboard was installed. The sign will soon be accompanied by two new benches and planters, which are set to arrive in the coming months.

Your Councillors secured £10,000 in funding from Conservative-led Bromley Council following complaints by residents that the shopping parade suffered from a lack of footfall following the closure of the much-loved Ajay’s convenience store.

It is hoped that, along with the opening of the Budgen’s convenience store, the Improvement Plan will restore Chilham Way Shopping Parade as a cherished space for the community.

Councillor Alexa Michael welcomed the sign. She said:

“My colleagues and I warmly welcome the installation of the sign at Chilham Way as part of our Chilham Way Improvement Plan. We hope this will go some way towards helping the shopping parade become a hub for the community once again.

“We look forward to seeing the introduction of new benches and planters to further enhance the public realm in this space over the coming months.”
